batches of foods that did not meet national standards of health and safety
during the port supervision process.
Among these foods intercepted at the Chinese

Substandard sodium glutamate negatively affects product quality and
deceives consumers
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a food additive
with a special umami taste. The additive is mainly used to give a fresh taste
to food, and the fresh taste of MSG mainly reflects the quality of the sodium
glutamate used. According to the National Food Safety Standards of China, MSG
can be used in appropriate amounts in food production, and MSG is a safe flavor
enhancers.
MSG is an important food additive giving an
umami taste to chicken-flavored seasonings. According to the regulation of MSG,
the content of sodium glutamate in ordinary MSG should be at least 99%.
Substandard sodium glutamate will not cause direct harm to the human body.
However, the sodium glutamate content of MSG is directly related to its cost,
and the production of MSG with substandard sodium glutamate content may be
deceptive to consumers.
