The CAS reveals new mechanism of plant hormone signaling pathway by successfully analyzed the chelation structure of strigolactone metabolite and DWARF14 active site, the crystal structure of complex of receptor DWARF14 and hormone GR24, and discovered the destabilization of DWARF144 and homologous protein DAD2 in the existence of hormone.

A research team led by Zhang Qifa from Huazhong Agricultural University identifies a regulatory network composed of microRNA and transcription factor that coordinately regulate vegetative (tiller) and reproductive (panicle) branching in rice. The patterns of lateral branching, including tillers and inflorescence branches, determine grain yields of many cereals.

The corn seed industry in China has encountered difficulties in the last four years: oversupply has become a new normal; there are too many new verified varieties which has exacerbated the oversupply; homogeneous varieties dominate the market; price polarization challenges "price dignity" and fake-licensed seeds are rampant. These aspects will need to be addressed to encourage innovation and to reward enterprises that produce unique and high quality corn seeds.
