GuangzhouChina Dec. 30, 2010 - At present, China's grain reserve has reached 200 million tonnes, and wheat, rice and corn have an adequate supply, disclosed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao when he participated in the CNR's live programme. China has abundant grain reserve, which is the material base to stabilize price fluctuation in grain.

During the period of 2008-2009, Wen Jiabao repeatedly said that China had about 150~200 million tonnes grain reserves.

China's grain output in 2010 increases to 5.46 million tonnes, keeping 2.9% growth in the consecutive seven years, while the official didn't specify the details in the output of various crops.

Over the past three years, apart from national grain reserve, China has also implemented a temporary system of grain reserve to prevent price fluctuation. On the other hand, it is still unclear whether Wen Jiabao refers to the total of two reserves and it is not clear whether it includes soybeans at present.

Chinahas established special grain reserve system and set up a special organization, namely State Bureau of Grain Reserve. It specifically regulates market supply and demand to stabilize price fluctuation in grain. At present, there are three countermeasures to ensure China food safety. First, it is important to increase the grain yield and improve food self-sufficiency. Second, it is necessary to develop agricultural reserve resource and strengthen food reserve. Third, it is our Chinese traditional virtues to save food, and China is on the way to bring the growth of population under control.
