Chilean steel institute (ICHA) reports that the apparent steel consumption and domestic shipments in Chile dropped to total 2.05 and 1.02 million tons in the first nine months of 2013, down by 11% and 16% respectively compared to the same period of last year. However, ICHA predicts the total apparent steel consumption in 2014 would reach around 2.9 million tons. It also indicates Chile would get more investments about US$114 billion in the steel-related sectors of mining, energy, infrastructure and housing by 2017.
