Japan’s coking coal imports up 1.6 percent in Q1

According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's coking coal imports totaled 6.7 million metric tons in March this year, rising by 34.6 percent month on month and up 24 percent compared to March 2012.

In the first quarter of 2013, Japan's coking coal imports amounted to 17.9 million metric tons, increasing by 1.6 percent year on year. In the first quarter, Japan's coking coal imports from Australia amounted to 8.95 million metric tons, down eight percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while Indonesia exported 5.9 million mt of coking coal to Japan in the first quarter, rising by 30 percent year on year.
