Australian miner BHP Billiton has announced that it aims to increase its Queensland coal production capacity by 50 percent by the end of 2014.

The company plans to increase its coal production capacity in Queensland from 44 million mt to 66 million mt in two years, said Marcus Randolph, chief executive of BHP Billiton's ferrous and coal division.

BHP stated that it has seen a strong recovery during the September quarter of the current year as production from BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) increased to more than 80 percent of supply chain capacity, following the severely constrained production in Queensland caused by industrial action and wet weather.
