Coal exports from PWCS up 16.3 percent in Sept over Aug

Coal exports from the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) terminals based at Port of Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, totaled 9.64 million mt in September, rising by 16.3 percent compared to August, according to the company's announcement. 16 percent of the total coal handled at the terminals was coking coal.

In the first nine months of the year, coking coal exports constituted 14 percent of total coal exports of 78.9 million mt from PWCS, with the overall volume up 8.86 percent compared to the same period last year.

According to the released information, Japan was the largest export destination for coal shipments from PWCS in the first nine months of the year, with shipments constituting 54.5 percent of the total shipments, while coal exports to China made up 17.55 percent of the total
