Poland's hard coal exports have continued to fall, with total shipments in the first half of 2012 falling by 28% on the year to 1.72 million mt (MT), according to statistics released Wednesday by state-controlled coal exporter Weglokoks.
Total H1 exports of thermal coal used for power generation declined 24% to 1.52 MT. Of this, seaborne shipments made up just 483,100 MT, with inland deliveries accounting for the remainder.
Polish exports of coking coal in H1 used in the steelmaking process fell 47% to 205,100 MT, all of which was railed inland.
Polish coal exports have been in decline for several years amid export subsidy withdrawals and an increasing focus on domestic coal-fired power generation. Poland exported just 4.71 MT in 2011 compared with over 18 MT in 2005
