China’s May scrap imports reduce by 19% y-o-y

According to statistics, China imported 508,000 tons of scraps in May, falling by 19.1% year on year while increasing by 5.9% from a month earlier.

Among them, 286,000 tons were imported from Japan, surging by 94.2%; 130,000 tons were from the US, reducing by 58.8%; 30,000 tons were from Australia, dropping by 53%; 19,000 tons were from Hong Kong, decreasing by 19.3%, all compared to that in the same period of a year ago.

In the first five months of this year, the country imported 2.338 million tons of scraps, rising by 3.5% year on year.

In the given period of time, Japan was the largest scrap exporter to China with 1.238 million tons, rising by 40.4%; the US was the second largest one with 726,000 tons, falling by 21.7%; Australia was the third largest one with 96,000 tins, dipping by 22.3%, all compared to that in the same period of the previous year
