In April 2013, the market prices of most refrigerants increased slightly thanks to the coming sales season of refrigerants, according to CCM’s latest report, “China Fluoride Materials Monthly Report”.

Most refrigerants' market prices increased slightly in April 2013, except 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (R134a). The market price of difluorochloromethane (R22) in April 2013 was USD1,554/t, increasing by 3.53% month on month. Affected by the increasing market price of R22, the market price of pentafluoroethane (R125) and R410a have increased by 3.23% and 0.51% respectively from March 2013 to April 2013.

As for difluoromethane (R32), its market price increased by 3.51% from USD2,022/t in March 2013 to USD2,093/t in April 2013. April is a favorable period for the production and sales of air conditioning. The increased market demand from downstream industries led to the market price increase of most refrigerants.

  R22
In addition to the positive influence from the sales season of refrigerants, the refrigerant industry conference in the middle of March 2013 has also promoted the market price increase of R22. After the refrigerant industry conference, most R22 enterprises collectively increased their ex-works price, which led to the market price increase of R22 by about USD53/t from USD1,501/t in March 2013 to USD1,554 in April 2013.

  R410a, R125
R22 is the main raw material of R410a and R125. The market price of R22 increased by 14.64% from USD1,373/t in Feb. 2013 to USD1,574/t in April 2013. The increasing cost promoted the the market price increase of R410a and R125.R32. The increasing application of R32 from indoor air-conditioning refrigerant has increased its market demand, which supported the increase of R32's market price. At present, Gree Electric Appliances, Inc. of Zhuhai and Daikin Industries Co., Ltd. have launched R32 environmentally friendly air conditioning.

  R134a
The market price of R134a in April 2013 was USD3,543/t, decreasing by 1.12% compared with USD3,583/t last month. Actually, it has been decreasing for 5 months since Nov. 2012, about USD4,025/t. The tough situation that European Union prohibited using R134a as refrigerant in the new cars has an adverse impact on the market price of R134a.

The current international situation of refrigerant isn't optimistic. Some counties prohibited the import of some refrigerating appliances due to the refrigerants' damage to the environment, which might have a bad impact on refrigerants' market price. For instance, On Feb. 22, 2013,
Columbia prohibited the production and import of household refrigerators, freezers and refrigerator-freezer that use hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) listed on Appendix C, Group I of the Montreal Protocol as refrigerant. The resolution will enter into force after six months since its issue date. In addition, Argentina and Saudi Arabia have announced in succession that they will formally prohibit the import of R22 refrigerating appliances on June 30, 2013 and Jan. 1, 2015 respectively.
