Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group has announced that its Hebei-based subsidiary Chengde Iron and Steel Co. has dismantled its 40 mt converter, within the scope of efforts to eliminate backward or dated steel production capacities in Hebei Province.
While converters of 40 mt and higher have not been included by the authorities in Hebei in their program for the elimination of backward capacities in the local steel industry, Chengde Steel has nevertheless decided to dismantle its 40 mt converter as an indication of its strong sense of responsibility. The 40 mt converter had commenced production in 1988.
