Gum rosin is mainly composed of resins, possessing chemical activity when dissolved in many organic solvents. At present, most rosin products are used for the manufacturing of paper, paint, soap and printing ink. Since rosin is easily softened and oxidized in oil paint industry, the carboxylation reaction of resin acid is usually employed to produce resin-ate for further use while producing rubber and printing ink. And resin acid is changed into disproportionate rosin, polymerized rosin, hydrogenated rosin, etc., for further use by its double bond reaction.

Since the export tender & quota system for gum rosin was cancelled in 2002, the export quantity of gum rosin has little relationship with the quota after 2002. Owing to global economic depression, the export quantity of gum rosin hit the bottom at the beginning of 2009, but it has quickly recovered in H2 2009, both in quantity and price thanks to the recovery of global economy.
