Shenhua H1 coal output up 11% on year

China Shenhua Energy Co., the listed subsidiary of the country's largest coal miner China Shenhua Group, said Saturday it produced 25.4 million mt (MT) of commercial coal in June, up 2.4%YOY.

It was the first single digit year-on-year increase since September 2010, when growth was recorded 9.8%. The company's year-on-year increase in monthly output peaked at 40.1% in June 2011.

In H1 2012, Shenhua Energy produced 155.8 MT of coal, up 11% from a year ago, the company said in the statement.

It sold 35.3 MT of coal in June, up 7.6% YOY. Of that, exports comprised 200,000 MT, down 33.3% YOY. Shenhua Energy sold 222.1 MT of coal in H1, up 16.2% YOY, of which exports accounted for 2.2 MT, down 31.3% over the same period.

The company imported 1 MT of coal in June, and 2.3 MT in H1. It did not import any coal in H1 2011.

Shenhua Energy did not provide a breakdown between thermal coal and coking coal. The company has a coking coal mining capacity of about 20 MT/year, mainly from Inner Mongolia-based Shenhua Wuhai Energy Co. and Ningxia-based Shenhua Ningxia Coal Mining Group. Its thermal coal mining capacity is not clear.

Meanwhile, Shenhua Energy generated 17.14 billion kWh of electricity in June, up 7.1% YOY. In H1, it generated 104.66 billion kWh of electricity, up 17.6% from a year earlier.
