MOA Chief Economist Qian Keming visits Peru

MOA Chief Economist Qian Keming paid a visit to Peru from September 23 to 26, 2014. During his visit, Qian met with Mr. César Calderón Sotomayor and Mr. Jorge Luis Montenegro, Peruvian Vice Ministers of Agriculture and Irrigation.
Both sides exchanged views on establishing the China-Peru Agricultural S&T Research and Development Center, and further deepening bilateral agricultural cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the Memorandum of Understanding between China and Peru on Agricultural S&T Research and Development Cooperation signed with the witness of the two Presidents in 2013, and intensify joint efforts in establishing the Center. The two sides reached a consensus in regard to means and approaches of cooperation: based on existing conditions, China and Peru will arrange exchange visits of experts and technicians, upgrade instruments and equipments, carry out joint research programs and extend advanced and pragmatic technologies, so as to enhance collaboration in crop production and livestock farming, improve agricultural S&T capacities of both countries, and promote sustainable agricultural development.
The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and Peru''s National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA), as the implementing agencies of the Agricultural S&T Center program, will work out the specific plan and scheme to launch cooperation activities as soon as possible.
During the stay in Peru, the Chinese delegation also paid field visits to INIA and some of its affiliated test bases and laboratories, covering the latest S&T and industrial developments of quinoa, potato, corn and guinea pig, and put forward suggestions for future cooperation.
