PT Monsanto Indonesia has planned to develop a hybrid corn seed with the fund of $40 million in Mojokerto, East Java. Mojokerto was selected because it can produce top-quality corn. The fund will be used to prepare bio-technology corn seeds that will be exported to corn producing countries such as the Philippines. Monsanto will cooperate with 15,000 corn farmers to achieve its plan. Monsanto also plans to operate a corn-seed factory. The pest-resistant corn seed will also be sold to farmers in East Java, Sumatra and Nusa Tenggara.
