PetroChina sets foundation for fertilizer project in Xinjiang, China

PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company has set the foundation for a major fertiliser project in Aksu of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regiong.

The fertiliser project is designed to consume 500 million cubic metres of natural gas and generate around CNY1.3 billion (US$254 million) of sales revenues each year from Yingmaili gas field in the area, said Zhou Xinyuan, general manager with PetroChina Tarim Oilfield Company.

The fertiliser project would be able to produce 450,000 tonnes of synthesis ammonia and 800,000 tonnes of urea every year after the full operation in 2015.

The fertiliser project also could generate more than CNY80 million (US$16 million) of taxes and profits and provide jobs for over 400 people.

Fertiliser products from the project would be sold to both domestic market in East China and overseas markets like Central Asia, India, Vietnam and others.

PetroChina has put one fertiliser project into operation in July 2010 with the same capacity in Korla of Xinjiang.
