Pakistan's August urea sales may reach 200,000 tonnes

As total sales till August 29 was around 190,000 tonnes, Pakistan's urea sales for the whole month of August are anticipated to reach 200,000 tonnes.

A report prepared by Topline Research said that it would be approximately 49% lower than the sales of 389,000 tonnes in July as dealers are anticipating decline in urea prices as there are rumours that the government might supply imported urea at a higher discount than local branded urea.

For the first eight months of 2012, urea sales are likely to reach 3.3 million tonnes against 3.7 million tonnes during the same period last year. However, local manufacturing sales during the eight months are anticipated to be lower by 31% to 2.3 million tonnes, it said.

Company-wise data shows that out of 200,000 tonnes urea sales in August, it is estimated that Fauji Group has sold around 55% followed by NFML (solely involved in marketing of imported urea), which contributed 16% of the industry sales so far. Similarly Engro's share is around 16%, while others contribute the rest.

The report revealed that more than 140,000 tonnes of imported urea, of 300,000 tonnes of imported, would still be available with the government during the next month, while 300,000 tonnes of fresh imported urea is expected to come by the middle of October.
