China's Xinjiang Lop Nur Potash yields 1.20 million tonnes potash
The current biggest potassium sulfate production project worldwide, Xinjiang Lop Nur Potash Co., Ltd, has an annual production capacity of 1.20 million tonnes of potash fertiliser, announced its vice general manager.
With investment totalling RMB4.8 billion (US$0.75 billion), the project came under construction in Lop Nur, Xinjiang, northwestern China, in April 2004 and it came into production in November 2008. It is the first-phase of the company's three million-tonne potash fertiliser project, which has been completed and accepted lately.
The project has entered the second-phase construction, including a 100,000-tonne potash magnesium sulphate fertiliser plant, a 600,000-ton potassium sulfate plant and one million-tonne potash magnesium sulphate fertiliserplant.
The company is predicted to raise total output capacity to three million tonnes and create 5,000 jobs by 2015.
Lop Nur, located in Ruoqiang county, is rich in potash resources, and it is a key area of China's unproved potash mineral concentrated distribution zone. Proved resources aggregate about 120 million tonnes and recoverable resources reach around 36 million tonnes.
