Bayer CropScience completes acquisitionof Prophyta

Bayer CropScience has announced the completion of its purchase of Prophyta GmbH, a leading supplier of microbial crop protection products headquartered in Malchow on the island of Poel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.
The acquisition, which includes Prophyta's product portfolio, R&D laboratories, production and formulation facilities, reflects Bayer CropScience's strategic commitment to lead the way in innovation.
For Bayer CropScience, this acquisition is an important investment decision towards building a leading biologics technology platform. "Prophyta's patented technology platform significantly boosts Bayer CropScience's ability to offer growers worldwide novel technology and complete agricultural solutions," said Dr R??diger Scheitza, member of the board of management of Bayer CropScience AG and head of strategy and business management.
Prophyta, founded in 1992, provides customers well-established products primarily based on biological control agents, such as nematicide BioActa?¢, which is available in 10 countries. Prophyta has developed a unique solid-state fermentation technology for production and bioprocess development of filamentous fungi. The company employs a total staff of approximately 30 full-time employees.
