Process technology provider Van Aarsen International was awarded its largest independent order ever in 63 years to supply and build a EUR45 million feed mill for agricultural cooperative Kalmar Lantm?¤n in Kalmar, south of Sweden.

The construction of the new plant between the two existing feed mills will begins in spring 2012 and will be completed towards the end of 2013. The complete investment of this project is the largest in history for the cooperative.

The replacement of the two existing feed mills would lower production costs per tonne of animal feed, through a high degree of automation, flexibility and efficiency. Improvements in hygienic production, ATEX and fire safety, and reduction of labour and energy costs would also be achieved.

With the purchase of this new state-of-the-art feed mill, Kalmar Lantm?¤n''s processing capacity of 90 tonnes per hour will increase its animal feed production to 275,000 tonnes per year.

In contrast to Sweden as a whole, the livestock and milk production in the south east of the country is growing and Kalmar Lantm?¤n expects a continual growth and prominent expansion in the chicken and pork industry sector in Sweden.

Project engineer Marc Schlechtriem describes the state-of-the-art mill, "Separate production lines for pigs, chicken and cattle feed, a very extensive raw material dosing system for macro and micro components, high capacity hammer mills with automatic screen exchange for high flexibility, long conditioning times for the hygienisation of the feed destruction of salmonella, bulk loading robots for rapid charging of the bulk carriers are all completely automated by an extensive intelligent automation system that can, if necessary, be remotely controlled by our IT Department for service or support."
