Philippines'' Univet inks 5-year agreement with US firm
Philippine feed produccer Univet Nutrition and Animal Healthcare Co. (Unahco), has inked a five-year distributorship agreement with United States-based animal nutrition provider Akey.
Univet is the manufacturer behind popular feed brands Pigrolac and Thunderbird.
Under the agreement, which can be extended yearly, Akey allows Univet to use Akey products such as Sow Plus, Boar Plus and Shell Add Plus as additives for its local feed products. Univet can also sell these Akey brands to the market.
Univet president and chief operating officer Ricardo C. Alba said the partnership would bring superior nutrition service to local raisers.
Akey vice president Dr. Ken Bryant explained that their products are the "multivitamin" equivalent for animals such as swine and poultry. These products help improve mortality and ensure bigger returns on investments for hog raisers and poultry growers.
Bryant said based on their tests in the US, for every dollar spent by hog raisers and poultry growers, they get in return a minimum of US$4 to as much as US$10, particularly for their Boar Plus product
He added that this is one of the main selling points of Akey products as some US hog raisers and poultry growers do not buy products that will give them less than a US$2 return for every US$1 they spend buying the product.
Alba also said Akey''s swine-nutrition technology plays a big role in the current formulation of Unahco''s flagship swine-feed brand, Pigrolac.
He said Pigrolac''s superior formulation using Akey technology, when coupled with good husbandry and genetics, will enable local hog raisers to produce safe and high-quality lean meat.
This, he stressed, is welcome news for those who love pork meat but want to remain healthy. Pigrolac Premium, according to Dr. Elcid Paraso, technical manager for Unahco, promotes excellent lean meat deposition in a natural and safe way through the proper balance of key nutrients and the use of "green" alternatives.
