Feed safety implementation delays in Spain
Spain is slow when implementation of the EU Directive on undesirable substances in animal feed is concerned.
The Directive manages the maximum amount of heavy metals such as arsenic, specific pesticides and botanical impurities.
Member states were to include the Directive into national law by mid 2010, but Spain did not manage to do so.
The European Commission last week once again called upon Madrid to do so after issuing many warnings in 2010.
If the Brussels authorities do not get a satisfactory reply within two months, it can sue Spain at the European Court of Justice.
