Cargill to build animal feed plant in Ukraine next year

Cargill plans to build a US$7-million animal feed factory in Kutsivka, Kirovohrad region of Ukraine as early as January 2011 and complete construction before year-end, according to sources.

"The start of work on the Ukrainian market of animal feed will enable expansion of the existing network of animal feed factories across the globe and allow satisfy the needs of the cattle raising industry," said the head of the European division for production and sales of animal feedstuff Dan Burke.

Given an increase in the consumption of meat and meat products in Eastern Europe, such investments will allow the company to capitalise on the cattle-raising sector in Ukraine, he added.

Products made at the factory will be sold under the Purina brand through a dealership chain to local livestock-rearing farms.

Cargill, a multinational manufacturer and vendor of foodstuffs and agricultural products, has been operating in Ukraine since 1991, headquartered in Kyiv. Its core operations in Ukraine include trading and processing grain and oil crops.
