Farmers Cooperative Company (FC) has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art feed mill in Coon Rapids, Iowa.

The proposed mill would have an annual output capacity of 400,000 tonnes, employ up to 25 people, and consume about nine million bushels of corn per year. Construction is tentatively slated to begin this spring.

The Coon Rapids location was chosen because of strong swine production growth in the area, and the investment in milling assets will improve FC's position as a long-term player in Iowa's feed industry. The feed mill would also bridges a distance gap between FC's Sac City and Earlham feed mills and strengthen FC's entire feed system, said FC's CEO, Roger Koppen.

Farmer's Cooperative Company is Iowa's largest agricultural cooperative and serves nearly 6,000 member owners throughout a trade territory of over 1.4 million acres. FC is owned and operated by the farmers it serves and governed by a board of directors. The project is contingent upon the necessary approvals of these groups but is part of the cooperative effort to provide needed product and services to the members.

FC has more than 50 locations statewide and employs a team of nearly 500 employees.
