Brazil's feed production to fall in Q4 2008
Brazil's feed production is expected to fall by nearly 3 percent to 15.3 million tonnes in the fourth quarter of 2008 as the sector is hit by global credit crisis, according to Brazilian feed association Sindiracoes.
Production of mineral supplements in the fourth quarter so far has reached 360,000 tonnes, down from 470,000 tonnes in the same period last year.
Despite the slowdown, growth for 2008 should reach 9.6 percent, said the association.
Caution will be needed for next year but the feed sector is not expected to shrink as the world will continue to eat, said Sindiracoes president Mario Sergio Cutait.
For the first three quarters of 2008, Brazil produced 43.3 million tonnes of feed, up 14.55 percent on-year from 37.8 million tonnes.
