Ireland's feed makers welcome inspection revamp
Irish feed makers welcome the Department of Agriculture's decision to review the inspection regime for all animal feed ingredient manufacturers following the dioxin contamination issue.
The Irish Grain and Feed Association (IGFA), which represents the majority of registered and approved commercial animal feed makers, said none of its members had used the feed ingredient from Millstream, a food recycling company at the centre of the current investigation on tainted feed.
IGFA members account for nearly all of the 3.5 million tonnes of animal feed bought by Irish farmers each year, and they are subject to eight or more surprise inspections every year.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland is currently assessing the results of dioxin testing on cattle farms. The authority is expected to announce the results later this week.
