Cargill to close down Arkansas feed plant
Cargill is planning to close its Springdale, Arkansas, animal feed manufacturing facility on November 14 this year.
The Arkansas plant's production, sales and customer service support would be shifted to Cargill's feed facilities in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Kansas City, Missouri.
The company is closing the facility due to a decline in dairy feed demand in the region, said Tom Taylor, general manager for Cargill Animal Nutrition's southeast regional office in Kansas City.
Operational since 1978, the feedmill was built to meet the dairy feed demands for dairy producers in the region. Cargill officials said the continuous reduction in dairy herd numbers in recent years has lessened demand to the point where maintaining the operation no longer makes business sense.
