China’s coke output reached 39.66 million tonnes in November, down 2.4% from October – reversing month-on-month increases in the previous two months, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on December 12.Industry insiders attributed the drop to strengthened environmental measures during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in early November. Many coke plants in provinces around Beijing, including Hebei, Shanxi, etc., were forced to shut or reduce output to guarantee air quality for the summit held between November 5-11.On a year-on-year basis, the November output fell 0.8% from a year ago, the third consecutive year-on-year decline, the NBS said.Over January-November, China produced a total 434.74 million tonnes of coke, edging down 0.4% from the year-ago level, it said.
