Southwestern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region will put its first nuclear power unit into commercial operation in July 2015, sources reported recently.Upon completion, the first phase project of Fangcheng nuclear power station – western China’s first nuclear power station – is expected to provide 15 TWh of clean
electricity
for Guangxi annually, which equals
coal
consumption
of 6 million tonnes.Investment in the first phase project was estimated to around 26 billion yuan ($4.23 billion).Operation of the nuclear power station, which will have six GW-level generating units, will boost the share of nuclear power to 10%, relevant officials said.Guangxi now has total installed capacity of 30.92 GW, with the share of hydro, thermal and
wind power
capacity at 49.7%, 49.9% and 0.4%, respectively. In order to ensure successful transmission of nuclear electricity, Guangxi Power Grid Company under China Southern Power Grid Corp invested 864 million yuan in building a 350-km 500KV transmission line, which was completed on December 16.Another 500KV transmission line, connecting Nanning, capital city of Guangxi and the station, is expected to be finished next May.
