Arkema-CJ kick-starts methionine plant in Malaysia
Last month Arkema started its thiochemicals industrial platform for the production of methionine, in partnership with CJ CheilJedang.
The site is Arkema's first thiochemicals (producing the intermediate methyl mercaptan) platform in Asia. The site is home to the world's first bio-methionine plant, built in partnership with CJ. The new industrial complex came on stream in January 2015, and produces methionine that is key to animal feed needed to meet the strong demand in Asia.
The site also comprises the production of DMDS for the petrochemicals and refining markets. With overall investments of some €200 million, this is Arkema's biggest industrial project since 2006.
The construction of the new platform is fully consistent with Arkema's strategy to consolidate its product lines with strong growth prospects and establish a worldwide presence through industrial bases on all three continents.
