2014 ended with fewer bird flu outbreaks in Vietnam

   

   

   

There have been three new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza, H5, detected in the Vinh Long and Tra Vinh regions of Vietnam between 29 November and 5 December.

   

   

In comparison, in the first quarter of 2014, the province of Tra Vinh had detected 25 outbreaks of bird flu in 12 communes of four districts including An Truong Commune, An Truong A, Tan Binh Tan, Tap Ngai, Long Thoi Hoa Tan and The Bridge Town, Ninh Thoi, Rich and Long Duc. 16,500 infected chickens had died in a flock of 22,000 chickens.

   

   

As of 6 December, the Animal Health Department of Tra Vinh, VII Regional Veterinary Authority has confirmed that 177 chickens in Thanh Phong, Cau Ke District, were infected with H5N1. 760 birds died and 447 birds were destroyed. The source of the outbreak is still unknown.
