Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen attends the Fourth Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development

The Fourth Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development was held in Brasilia, capital of Brazil on March 13th, 2015.Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen attended and addressed the meeting.

 

Vice Minister Yu pointed out that agricultural cooperation is an important part of the cooperation mechanism of BRICS countries. BRICS owns 35.6% of the total arable land in the world, andits stable agricultural development is of great significance to global food production and trade. Vice Minister Yu put forward a five-point proposal on agricultural cooperation for BRICS countries: first, to enhance information exchanges; second, to strengthen cooperation in the area of food security; third, to promote cooperation in the field of adapting agriculture to climate change; fourth, to develop cooperation on agricultural technologies; and fifth, to carry out cooperation in agricultural investment and trade promotion.

 

After the meeting, Vice Minister Yu held a bilateral talk with Tatiana Lipovetskaia Palermo, International Relations Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply of the Federative Republic of Brazil. Both sides spoke highly of the progress in agricultural investment and trade collaboration, under the mechanisms of China-Brazil joint committee on agriculture and joint labs of agricultural sciences. The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing agricultural partnership and reached broad consensus. 

 

During the meeting, Vice Minister Yu also met with Radha Mohan Singh, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of India, Senzeni Zokwana, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of South Africa, and Shestakov Ilya Vasilyevich, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russian Federation.
