The 8th Session of FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Management and the 6th FAO/WHO Joint Meeting on Pesticide were held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy on 9 to 12, October. 13 members of the FAO/WHO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Management attended the meeting. In addition, representatives from international organizations, governments and industrial organizations also participated the meeting as observers including OECD, International Biocontrol Manufacturers'' Association, International Conference on Chemicals Management, Pesticide Action Network, Australia Department of Agriculture, Croplife International and Agro-Care.
The meeting reviewed the work of FAO, WHO, and UNEP on pesticide management in the past 12 months, jointly completed revision of the International Code of Conduct on Pesticide Management (formerly known as the International Code of Conduct on the Distribution and Use of Pesticide) with FAO Committee on Agriculture, and discussed issues concerning Highly Hazardous Pesticides and pesticide registration. The meeting adopted the Guidelines on Resistance Prevention and Management and Guidelines on the Data Requirements for the Registration of Pesticides and continued to work on other guidelines including Guidelines on Pesticide Legislation, Guidelines for Good Labeling Practice for Pesticides and Guidelines on Microbial Pesticides. In addition, the meeting also discussed hot issues in pesticide management and the panel''s tasks of priority.
