China May coke output down 4.2 pct on yr

China produced 37.69 million tonnes of coke in May, down 4.2% from a year ago but up 0.69% from April, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on May 13.That was the fourth straight yearly decline, mainly due to low operation rates of coking plants amid weak demand and the environmental protection pressure.Over January-May, total coke output of China reached 187.81 million tonnes, down 2.8% year on year, the NBS data showed.
