According to MOA, China will reap a bumper summer harvest in 2015. It is estimated that the acreage of harvest crops will record a new high of 415 million mu (about 27.67 million hectares), increasing by over 100 million mu (about 6.67 million hectares) than that of last year. Winter wheat is the major summer crop of China and its bumper harvest is crucial to ensure the absolute security of grains for food.
Minister Han Changfu stated during an interview that three factors contributed to consecutive grain output increase this year, namely, stable policies, intensified support of science and technology, and effective disaster prevention measures. The government issued the minimum purchase price for wheat and maintained the market price stable; went on key technology support for wheat production, such as spraying foliage fertilizers and preventing diseases, pests, premature senescence and dry-hot wind; and promoted prompt technical guidance and science-based practices for disaster prevention and reduction, especially pest management expertise to secure the harvest. Also, this year the climate conditions are favorable for wheat production. In particular, dry land wheat has witnessed more robust growth than previous years.
