China’s northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region witnessed a year-on-year rise of 30.2% in power output to 196.5TWh by end-2014, showed the latest data from the energy sector annual report released by the regional government.It was the first time the regional government published an annual report on Xinjiang’s energy sector.Of this,
electricity
generation from renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydropower totaled 33.61TWh, accounting for 17.1% of the total.The power sent from Xinjiang to other provinces through the West-to-East transmission lines amounted to 17.5TWh last year, up 167.9% from a year ago.Xinjiang’s installed power generation capacity stood at 55.49GW by end-2014, up 30.4% from the previous year, with combined capacity from wind, solar and hydropower totaling 17.03GW, accounting for 30.7% of the total.Meanwhile,
coal
output of Xinjiang stood at 143 million tonnes in 2014; the natural gas output was 29.7 million cubic meters; oil output amounted to 27.06 million tonnes.The energy-rich Xinjiang province plays a significant part in national energy supply.
