Hi-tech shrimp farm to be built in Vietnam

The Viet Nam-Australia Seafood Company has started work on a project to use advanced technology to farm shrimp in the central province of Binh Dinh, Viet Nam news reports.

The technology helps to reduce farm management risks while increasing output and cutting production costs.

The company said the US$36 million project would employ poly-greenhouses, recirculating-aquaculture systems and biofloc technology from Israel, the United States and the Netherlands.

The shrimp farm would cover 300 hectares in My Thanh commune in Phu My District, and is expected to yield between 100 and 300 tonnes per hectare annually. It is estimated that the farm could produce 2,900 tonnes of shrimp in 2017 and 9,600 tonnes in 2018.
