Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attends 5th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development

The 5th Meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Agriculture and Agrarian Development was held in Moscow, Russia on October 9, 2015. Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech.

 

Vice Minister Qu pointed out that the BRICS countries are important strength to promote political stability and economic development in the world. The BRICS countries own 35.6% arable land on the earth, and their stable agricultural development is crucial for global agriculture. While enhancing domestic economy and agriculture, the Chinese government is also committed to building a favorable environment and providing facilitation and guarantee for foreign trade and investment cooperation. In the meantime, China will strengthen its overseas agricultural investment and make contributions to agricultural development of the BRICS as well as other countries. Vice Minister Qu emphasized that China will take measures to further promote agricultural trade and investment cooperation for common development of the BRICS countries; launch a BRICS agricultural information exchange system and build up a digital agricultural platform with timely information service to advance decision making, trade and investment of the BRICS; intensify cooperation in agricultural technology and adapting agriculture to climate change so as to enhance food security.

 

In the afternoon of the day, Vice Minister Qu Dongyu and Sergey Levin, Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, co-chaired the 2nd Meeting of China–Russia Subcommittee on Agricultural Cooperation under the framework of China-Russia Prime Ministers'' Regular Meeting Committee in Moscow. The two sides conducted consultations on agricultural investment, fisheries, economic and trade relations, research, quality control, agricultural cooperation among local governments, and so on. The two sides reached wide-ranged consensuses on comprehensive agricultural investment and development and fisheries cooperation, among others.
