Vice Minister Qu Dongyu co-chaired the 6th JCCA (Joint Committee on Cooperation in Agriculture) Meeting with Under Secretary Michael T. Scuse from USDA in Beijing on Nov. 12, 2015. The two sides discussed the bilateral agricultural cooperation.

 

Vice Minister Qu pointed out that China-US cooperation started from the field of agriculture after China's adoption of the reform and opening-up policy. With 3 decades of development, agricultural cooperation has become an important tangible component of the bilateral relations. In recent years, steered by JCCA, the bilateral agricultural cooperation has been constantly strengthened, extended and enriched, and the two sides are cooperating comprehensively in the field of agriculture.

 

Vice Minister Qu suggested that the two sides continue enhancing the cooperation in the following fields: 1. Continue the steering and leading role of JCCA, promoting the orderly implementation of cooperation projects; 2. Implement the MOU on agricultural cooperation well; 3. Give full play to the sectoral working groups under JCCA, encourage and support research institutions, associations, enterprises, etc. in participating in the operation of JCCA and its subordinate working groups, so as to better service the agricultural development of both countries.

 

Under Secretary Scuse responded that the US side values the cooperation with China in the field of agriculture, and is ready to work with China to promote the bilateral cooperation in agricultural science and technology, agricultural policy, personnel exchanges, among others, to boost the sound and healthy development of the agricultural sector of both countries.
