Hungary's beef shipment reaches China, a historic first

China's first Hungarian beef shipment- 12-tonne frozen beef valued at US$70,600 – had reached Shanghai's Yangshan Port last week, www.cnchemicals.com reported.

According to the Shanghai Customs and Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the products should enter the market before the Chinese Lunar New Year in early February.

This development came after a MOU was signed between China and Hungaryin 2015. Hungary's beef cattle, production processes and food safety management underwent inspections before both nations reached a 2014 deal for frozen beef to be delivered to China.

In October last year, the first beeftrade agreement was signed.

Currently, Chinese demand for beef and mutton is on the rise, with Shanghai bringing in close to 170,000 tonnes or about US$836 million worth of such products in 2015.
