China’s
wind power
output connected to the grid reached 55.2 TWh in the first quarter, up 21% year on year, accounting for 4.07% of China’s total power output of 1,355.1 TWh during the same period, according to data released by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on April 26.Over January to March this year, China added 5.33 GW of wind power to the grids, up 13% over the same period last year.Southwestern China’s Yunnan province accounted for nearly 40% of the newly added on-grid wind capacity, reaching 2.09 GW in the first three months, while Jilin and Inner Mongolia added 560 MW and 280 MW of on-grid wind capacity, respectively.By the end of March, China had 134 GW on-grid wind power capacity, up 33% compared to the figure by end-March last year, the NEA said. However, the utilization of wind turbines was falling due to wastage. The average utilization nationwide was 422 hours in the first three months, 61 hours less than the same period last year, showed the NEA data. The top three provinces that registered the highest utilization are Fujian at 755 hours, Yunnan at 753 hours and Sichuan at 738 hours; while the last three provinces are Jilin at 224 hours, Ningxia at 264 hours and Xinjiang at 189 hours.Meanwhile, wind power wasting reached 19.2 TWh, rising 79.44% compared with the year-ago level.
