The 2016 China Agriculture Outlook Conference was held in Beijing on April 22-23, providing the outlook of the market trends of major agricultural products for the next 10 years in China. The Conference highlighted the supply side reform in agriculture driven by market demand and released the China Agriculture Outlook Report (2016-2025).

 

In his written speech for the Conference, Minister Han Changfu emphasized that agricultural development should be market-oriented while we should bear in mind both domestic and international markets. He called for the adjustment of the product mix and agricultural structure, improvement of product quality and development of more diversified and flexible supply channels to respond to the demand of consumers. He also urged the constant enhancement of the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of China's agriculture. He stressed innovation in management to keep pace with the times, pledged to introduce more active, forward-looking and well-targeted policies and measures to balance supply and demand, and use big data to improve decision-making.

 

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended the Conference and highlighted in his speech the supporting role of data in the supply-side structural reform of agriculture. He pointed out that the application of data in agriculture enables closed-loop management of agricultural supply chain, cross-sector integration and openness, reform of agricultural value chain and the development of the sharing economy. He also called for the development of data collection and analysis system and improvement of the quality of agricultural data and information analysis to ensure timely release of authoritative information. He hoped that the Conference will be constantly improved as a professional event to guide the market expectation and serve agricultural production.

 

Mr. Chen Mengshan, Party Secretary of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, delivered a welcome address at the opening ceremony. Parallel sessions on the outlook for some particular products and hot topics were also held during the Conference.

 

The Conference was attended by more than 200 participants from relevant central government agencies, agricultural authorities at local levels, agricultural enterprises, research institutes and international organizations.
