Brazil was Egypt's biggest soybean supplier in 2015
Egypt's biggest soybean supplier was Brazil last year, with the latter delivering 550,000 tonnes, according to a report by the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Services (FAS).
Other top suppliers are Argentina (540,000 tonnes) followed by the US (480,000 tonnes). Egypt also sourced soybean from Canada, Uruguay, Paraguay and Ukraine.
The soybean trade in 2015 and the first quarter of this year was otherwise affected by official restrictions on access to foreign currencies.
In addition, the recent discovery of ambrosia in soybean imports prompted cargo screening of vessels and occasionally, complete rejection of some vessels.
