Gansu province gained approval from National Energy Administration (NEA) for its new coal-fired power project on April 28, which was designed as the supporting project for ±800KV DC UHV power transmission line from Jiuquan to Hunan, source learned from local media. The project, with a total investment of 13.4 billion yuan ($2.06 billion) by the provincial Power Investment Group, has designed installed capacity of 4GW.It will consist of 4 ultra-supercritical air-cooled units, and may burn around 10 million tonnes of
coal
per year. Hami in northwestern China’s Xinjiang will be the source for the project’s coal supply. The coal-fired power project is planned to start construction in August this year. Two power units are expected to be put into operation in the same month of 2018, and all the four units will finish the construction by 2019.Upon the completion of the project, about 42 TWh of
electricity
is expected to be transmitted from Gansu province to Hunan and surrounding areas per year, with
wind power
and photo electricity and other new energies accounting for over 40% of the total. It will efficiently address the problem of restricted electricity use as well as unutilized wind resource at Hexi area in Gansu, prompting the province’s economic development.
