China Mar key steel mills met coal purchase costs fall

The purchase cost of metallurgical coal by China’s key steel mills dropped on month in March, data from the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) showed.The weighed purchase cost of coking coal by key steel mills averaged 601.4 yuan/t ($92.5/t) in March, down 1.03% or 6.28 yuan/t on month.That average weighed purchase cost stood at 608.44 yuan/t in the first quarter, down 189.64 yuan/t or 23.76% year on year.Over January-March, the lowest weighed purchase cost of five steel mills averaged 481.19 yuan/t, 20.91% lower from the national average level, while the highest five steel mills was 15.38% higher than the national level at 702.02 yuan/t.Meanwhile, the weighed purchase cost of PCI by China’s key steel mills averaged 510.16 yuan/t in March, down 1.09% or 5.64 yuan/t on month.That average weighed purchase cost stood at 509.73 yuan/t in the first quarter, down 169.76 yuan/t or 24.98% year on year.The weighed purchase cost in the lowest five steel mills averaged 356.0 yuan/t, 30.16% lower from the national average level, while the highest five steel mills was 22.57% higher than the national level at 624.79 yuan/t.
