Fusong county, in Jilin province, has long been known for its ginseng so it has a wealth of ginseng stories and ginseng customs, with its "Changbai Mountain Ginseng Picking" getting State Council recognition as a national cultural heritage. Fusong got the nickname "home of ginseng" in 1995 and 70 percent of its farmers'income derives from ginseng.
Now, it has the whose purpose is to publicize the local ginseng industry and culture. The museum collects forms of the plant and is involved in protecting and doing research on ginseng. It covers a 3,240-sq–m area, with 2,021 sq m of exhibits of its history, customs, videos, and even a tasting section. The history of planting, processing and use are all on display in text, photos and objects, such as tools, with samples and products. The museum is important in introducing China's ginseng culture to the world.
