Guangzhou China Dec. 1, 2010 - Metholachlor, as the main variety of herbicides, has become one of the hot chemical products in recent years. 17 companies have obtained the approval certificate of production registration for metholachlor technical, with the total capacity of metholachlor technical 30,000t/a. Along with the rising demand for metholachlor technical, the output increases year by year. About 2,000 tonnes metholachlor technical are produced in 2010, accounting for 60%of the export volume.
In international market, the salable amide herbicides are acetochlor, alachlor, metholachlor and butachlor. There is a trend that metholachlor is gradually replacing acetochlor in import countries. As we know, acetochlor global sales achieved USD0.45 billion and metholachlor's was USD 0.385 billion in 2004.However, acetochlor global sales decrease to USD 0.385 billion in 2005, and the sales of metholachlor was USD 0.37 billion.
Growing demand for metholachlor and acetochlor drop in domestic market indicates a trend that acetochlor will be substituted by metholachlor in Chinese herbicides market. Metholachlor has favored market, because it enjoys the advantages of high efficiency, low toxicity and wide application. As metholachlor has a rosy future, many acetochlor technical manufacturers has turned to produce metholachlor technical in domestic market.
