In recent years, with the booming online shopping in China, people are advocated to use environmentally friendly bags. Statistics show that there were more than 9 million packages generated from Chinese E-commerce which accounted for 60% of all the packages used in the national express in 2013.



On 5 June, 2014, the World Environment Day, Dangdang which is one of the biggest shopping websites in China, announced that it is to be the first to promote environmentally friendly starch-based biodegradable bags to fight against the environmental pollution in the E-commerce industry.



In June 2014, starch-based biodegradable bags were used for the first time in the Dangdang’s warehouse in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province to pack books and other goods Dangdang distributed. The company will populate the activity in other warehouses in the future. It was reported that new environmental plastic bags are made from polylactic acid and they have got the certifications of National Environmental Protection and International Development Committee and the European Union. In the production process of PLA, it saves 70% of petroleum consumption than the process of traditional products.
